did you know, the first mascot for the olympics was a weenie dog? waldi was the name of the mascot in 1972 during the munich games. the marathon route was even designed in the shape of a weenie! a man named otl aicher was a graphic designer/typographer and created the mascot. waldi was actually inspired by a real-life long-haired weenie that went by the name cherie von berkinhof. they used cherie for inspiration and incorporated the olympic ring colors! for the games, this mascot was meant to represent agility, resistance, and tenacity.

it makes sense why our favorite breed was used for the munich games because weenies come of german origin! “dachs” in german means badger, while “hund” means dog. they’re known as the badger dog because they were developed to chase/flush out badgers. since it’s in their genes, you may catch your doxie digging in the dirt trying to find those underground dwellers. they’re small but super active! we even have some activewear that you can wear when you take your doxie on their much-needed walks.
